This course offers students the opportunity to develop an understanding of metal forming technology through precision metal machining and arc welding processes in preparation for a skilled trade apprenticeship program in the areas of sheet metal, electrical, or residential HVAC. The skilled trade pre-apprenticeship course in welding, brazing and soldering will be housed in the Engineering Technology pathway of the Industry, Technology and Innovation (ITI) Academy at Center Line High School. Students advance in training through applied math, technical communication, employability skills and collaboration. Technical skills are presented in precision measuring, blueprint reading, safety, and torch cutting. Through a partnership with the Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 80, students will become proficient in various welding and machining processes such as MIG, TIG, stick welding, saws, drills, power tools, milling and turning, troubleshooting, and problem solving. There are also exciting extracurricular activities and opportunities for students’ competitions through SkillsUSA.  Certificates available in AWS Welding for the GMAW, GTAW, and STICK processes.
